On Saturday, 23 February, 9 Young Adults gatherered together for the O.C. - Ongoing Conversion retreat.
It was a good day, that involved a lot of sharing and reflection. As Young Adults, we were reminded that it is on the path of life that we all travel and that it Christ has shown us the Highway.
We also talked about the 2 great New Testaments models of conversion. First is that of Saint Paul, that sudden, life altering experience. Many, if not most of us, don't share this type of conversion. The Second is that the Apostle, Saint Peter. His is the model which most of follow. Saint Peter wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed and he seemingly, had constant, lifelong crises of faith. He denied Jesus 3 times, but affirms Christ 3 times at the Ascension. He tells Jesus no at the Last Supper when Jesus wants to wash his feet, but once Jesus reveals the reason why, he wants his whole body washed.
Most of us, like Saint Peter, falter, have crises of faith, but with all the great and ancient tools the Church has given us, if we are open, the answers are revealed.
We will soon be having fellowship dinners as a Ministry, the Highway, Young Adult Ministry. All Young Adults are welcome to join.

The O.C., Young Adult Retreat

Retreat: (n) a period of seclusion, retirement or solitude.
When do we make time to seclude ourselves from the hectic pace of day to day life? For most Young Adults, the answer is rarely if ever. Even on vacations, we hyper plan every hour, minute, and second. We want to get to our hotel by this time, be on the beach by that time, and make dinner by another time. When we get home, we may be more tanned; more well traveled, even better informed, but rarely are we more at peace.
As a Young Adult at Saint Lawrence the Martyr, you have an opportunity to participate in The O.C., Young Adult Retreat. This retreat will take place on Saturday, 23 February. It will begin at 8:30 AM with morning Mass in the church and end at 3:30 PM.
During The O.C., Young Adult Retreat, you will have time to seclude yourselves from your daily life. Leave behind the all those errands, projects, and tasks that cloud your mind from looking inward. Lent calls us to look inward. Lent calls us to examine ourselves and see how we might reflect our Catholic Christian faith into the world. Lent calls to Prayer, Penance, Almsgiving, and Fasting, this retreat will help you to see how you may express those, in your busy lives, so you can truly understand how you want to achieve your faith in action.
Our faith never calls you to forsake the real world and live in solitude. While some choose that path, the full expression of our faith is at home in the family, at work, and in the world. We hope to help you, with one day retreat, to examine yourself in the context of your faith.
Another thing you can count on during this retreat, is the only fasting you will do is fasting from the outside world, there will be breakfast and lunch.
There will be a fee for this retreat of $15 per person or $25 per person. This cost will defray the cost of food and some material.
If you are a Young Adult, 18-35ish, married or in a relationship or single, a student or working, busy or bored, and would like more information or to reserve your spot at The O.C., Young Adult Retreat, please contact the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Bruno MartÃnez at 408.869.8254 or at bmartinez@saintlawrence.org
